This nifty post card(pretty clean, but with some wear and tear and scuffs(front) around its edges) from Kiel(a superb example of the special, commemorative cancel("American Fleet" in German!) used during the U.S. Navy's visit!), Germany, has a very unique history behind it! It was sent on June 26, 1911, from Kiel Germany, to a Mr. J.F. Hoke, U.S.S. Olympia, Annapolis, Maryland, U.S.A.! The U.S.S. Olympia, a protected cruiser, was in reserve at Annapolis at the time of writing. The sender of this card was a fellow American sailor serving on one of the warships in The U.S.'s Second Battle Fleet that visited Kiel, Germany, in June 1911! As for the red, 10-Pfennig, German definitive, outside of the obvious damage to its bottom, right side(happened before it was affixed to the card), it's in good-very good condition! Noted imperfections aside, this post card remains an attractive, rare piece of U.S. Naval postal history connected to Imperial Germany, the U.S. Second Battle Fleet, U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and two U.S. Navy sailors that were good friends!
