Watercolor painting of a street of old historic houses such as one would find in the south---think Charleston or New Orleans, measuring 17 1/2" by 21 1/2" (24 1/2" by 28 1/2" in an attractive, hand-carved frame), signed lower right in pencil and dated '35 by artist Stella Sara Henoch (1881-1964).  However, upon opening the backing, I discovered penciled information identifying the subject:  "Buxton House, Eastport Maine" and "Early colonial house".  Internet research shows that the so-called Buxton House in Eastport was built in 1826 and that the mayor of Eastport, one Charles Buxton, lived in it around the year 1900.  A historic district in Eastport has been proposed or established, to protect the early structures and the integrity of the neighborhood.  There is a town of Buxton northwest of Portland in the southern part of Maine, so, an old Maine name.    Colors are rich and not faded.  Henoch seems to have had ties to Indiana and Missouri; a relative lived in Los Angeles which may account for the painting having been found here.  She seems to have painted in a number of geographical areas.  According to findagrave.com, her burial place is LaPorte, Indiana.  Condition excellent.
