Description
This is an exceptional Shonai school tsuba from the Edo period, featuring a finely detailed bamboo and tiger motif carved in high relief on a superb iron plate.
The iron surface has a rich, deep texture, often described as "soft and moist" (well-refined iron), which is highly valued among collectors. The tiger emerging from a bamboo grove is rendered with remarkable artistry, creating a mysterious and dynamic impression.
Both the material quality and craftsmanship are of an extremely high level. Pieces of this caliber are rarely seen, and this tsuba can be considered one of the finest examples of Shonai work.
