Old Town
Card Shop Hand-Screened Card
Anyone who has lived
in Albuquerque or has been a regular visitor
to Old Town will be familiar with this
particular card brand and style. The Old Town
Card Shop (closed in 2012) was owned by Sandra
and Rod Townsend. Every year at Christmas, we
all waited with great excitement to see the
new original works done by Sandra and Rod for
their Christmas card line-up. Sandra did the
artwork, and Rod did the hand-screening.
They
were always hand-screened originals, so gorgeous that many people bought them to frame and hang in their homes. I even bought some
of those at the time! Sadly, Rod passed away
quite some time ago, and eventually Sandra sold
the shop and retired. So these cards are
extremely hard to find.
In
keeping with the southwest theme their cards always had, Sandra created a card featuring snow-covered rocks and trees
(which can be found here in New Mexico)
and the star of Bethlehem in the deep blue
sky. Each color of each card
is hand-screened, allowed to dry, and then the next color is screened. All done in oil-based paint.
"The
Ojito Wilderness" measures: 5" by 8". It was
made right here in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Blank interior. Comes with an envelope. I'm
guessing that I bought this card at least 20 years ago.
Condition: New with
envelope. The photos are in the photo gallery, where you can view them at high magnification.
All
items come from my personal collections.
