Vintage Zuni Jeffrey Tsalabutie Bighorn Sheep fetish.
- Crafted from rhodochrosite, a mineral known for its pink and white banding. The carving includes small inlaid turquoise eyes and a bundle on its back of turquoise, coral and lapis lazuli pieces.
- Fetishes are traditional carvings made by Zuni artists, often representing animals and used for spiritual purposes. In Zuni culture, the bighorn sheep (or ram) is a powerful symbol of strength, fertility, and abundance, acting as a provider of food and a guardian of herds. Often depicted in fetishes, it represents perseverance, the ability to overcome obstacles, and is closely associated with rain and the renewal of life.
- Signed on sticker on base, typical of Jeffrey's works.
- Jeffrey Tsalabutie's (1974-2009) animals were carved with a whimsical style that was completely new. The postures, the attention to the minutest detail, and the freshness are what keeps the interest in Jeff’s work today.
- Excellent condition.
