I have here for sale a book entitled THE HISTORY OF THE PALATINE AND CITY OF CHESTER by George Ormerod, and published by Lackington, Hughes, Harding, Mavor, & Jones, London, 1819. Volumes II and III only, of a three volume series. There are 28 plates across the two volumes including the colour map and the colour plate. This is a comprehensive account of the County of Cheshire, compiled from original evidences in public offices, the Harleian and Cottonian manuscripts, parochial registers, private muniments, unpublished manuscript collections of successive Cheshire antiquaries, and a personal survey of every township in the county. Incorporated with a republication of Kings Vale Royal, and Leycester's Cheshire Antiquities.
Volume II contains the hundreds of Edisbury, Wirral, and Broxton. Illustrated with a colour map of the wonderful Delamere Forest (great place for a Park Run, possibly the most scenic Park Run in the UK), and 12 b/w plates. Covers the townships of Tarporley, Whitegate, Middlewich, Over, Budworth, Oulton, illustrations of Beeston Castle, Peckforton Castle, Weever Hall, Vale Royal in 1775, Vale Royal in 1819.
Volume III covers Northwich, Nantwich and Macclesfield Hundreds. 15 plates including Views of Stockport, of Macclesfield, Old Withington Hall, Prestbury, Combermere, Crewe Hall, Brereton Hall, Sandbach Cross and Astbury.
Bound in quarter brown leather on marble hardboards, with gilt lettering to the spine. Bumped and chipped to the head and tail of the spine, with large parts of the spine absent. The boards are detached. But the pages are all present and the text block nice and solid, therefore this is a good binding project. A purple pencil inscription is to the reverse of the rear free endpaper, otherwise pages clean. These books are in good overall condition. 472 and 470 pages. 38 cm x 24.5 cm.
