Art Nouveau enamel mount with original ring pull
Turned hardwood box, Central Europe, circa 1900
Beautiful aged surface and authentic period presence.
A characterful small turned hardwood box retaining its original Art Nouveau enamel and metal ring-pull mount, Central European, circa 1900.
The visual focus is the decorative mount: a period enamel ground in deep ruby tones with repeating stylised floral cells surrounding the original metal pull. The metal has developed a soft, natural patina consistent with age and use, giving the piece strong decorative presence.
The box itself is hand-turned hardwood with classic late-19th / early-20th century Central European small-goods construction. The surface shows attractive tonal variation and honest age wear typical of early domestic objects.
These enamel-mounted fittings were produced for high-quality small domestic goods including linen, glove and personal storage boxes and were supplied through the German and Austrian decorative metal trades around the turn of the century.
Today the piece works well as:
• decorative tabletop object
• cabinet of curiosities display piece
• prop styling object
• period hardware reference example.
You could give the very beautiful enamel handle plate to a craftsman to make a box in another material utilising it as a lid or the wooden parts could be restored for better display.
