An original graphite landscape drawing by Herbert William
Hellings (1873–1948) depicting a tranquil river bend bordered
by trees and reeds. The composition shows Hellings’ mastery of atmosphere and
reflection — softly rendered clouds drift above calm water, their mirrored
forms captured with exceptional sensitivity.
Signed lower left H. W. Hellings.
Although this work is untitled, its style and scenery are consistent with
Hellings’ Suffolk and East Anglian subjects, likely dating from the 1930s.
Medium: Graphite on paper
Sheet size: approx. 28cm x 45cm.
Condition: Good; light overall age toning and
scattered foxing, mainly to the margins; unframed.
A finely observed and tranquil riverside study by a well-regarded East
Anglian draughtsman, ideal for collectors of British landscape art and regional
scenes.
