My husband purchased this from a street artist in Georgetown, Guyana in January, 1994.  The name, Bongo Man, and the date the artist made the item, ’93, is scratched on the bottom of the item.  This is shown in the photos.  The item is polished to a glossy black but the stone can be, and has been, scratched in a few places.  The most prominent is on the head.  The noticeable scratches are, to the best of my ability, displayed in the photos. The last of the close-ups of the scratches on the head is taken with a flash to make it stand out in harsh light.  The item is over 5 pounds, is 10 inches tall, and the base is 3” by 3 7/8”.
