This new authentic baseball jersey from Tamashima Commercial High School (岡山県立 玉島商業高等学校 野球部) showcases one of Okayama Prefecture’s most esteemed high school programs. Manufactured by Mizuno, Japan’s leading baseball outfitter, the jersey is made from lightweight white mesh fabric and features a prominent “Tamashō” script in deep navy across the chest.
Founded in 1926, Tamashima Commercial High School’s baseball team has a long-standing reputation for grit, discipline, and defensive excellence. The club has appeared four times at Koshien Stadium, the pinnacle of Japanese high school baseball, including a historic 1969 Summer Koshien semifinal run, plus appearances at the 1969 Spring Senbatsu, 1955 Summer Koshien, and 1974 Summer Koshien. In recent years, Tamashō has remained a competitive force in the Okayama Prefectural tournaments, often reaching the quarterfinal rounds.
The program has also produced professional players, including Takuzō Miyake and Takeshi Hayase, further cementing its impact on Japanese baseball history. This Mizuno-made jersey is more than just team apparel — it’s a collector’s piece that connects fans to nearly a century of baseball tradition and Koshien memories.
In Japan, Kōshien refers to the two annual baseball tournaments contested by high schools nationwide, culminating in a grand finale at Hanshin Kōshien Stadium in Nishinomiya. These tournaments enjoy immense popularity, comparable to the NCAA March Madness in the U.S., and may rival or surpass those of professional baseball.
These events have become cherished national traditions, prompting many enthusiastic students and parents to travel from their local areas to support their teams. It’s not uncommon to witness players leaving the field in tears after a painful elimination. Star players from the championship team often gain a level of celebrity.
For athletes, competing at Kōshien serves as a stepping stone toward a professional career. Given the recruiting approaches of Japanese high schools, the best prospects typically find themselves on strong teams that can reach the Kōshien finals.
