One of he new £2 coin designs for 2007 commemorates the Bicentenary of the Abolition of the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
The anti-slavery movement of today is still fighting contemporary forms of slavery but it is indebted to the people who, 200 years ago, sacrificed so much. These people were bold enough to believe that they could make a difference and actually change the world. Through their humanitarian efforts and compassion the slave trade was recognised as an inhuman system that should never be tolerated.
The date "1807" with the "0" depicted as a broken chain link, surrounded by the inscription "AN ACT FOR THE ABOLITION OF THE SLAVE TRADE" and the date "2007".
