This is a huge beautiful Fossil Eggshell fragment from a Titanosaur, a type of giant long neck dinosaur (Sauropod), from the Allen Formation of Rio Negro Province, Patagonia, Argentina! The eggshell piece is in fantastic condition and measures 2.45 Inches! It comes in a doubles sided clear display case for easy transport and display!
Titanosaurs
are a group of Long Neck Dinosaurs, aka Sauropods. They are not only the
largest of all dinosaurs, but the largest of all animals to ever walk on land!
The largest Titanosaurs could reach lengths of over 120 feet and nearly 80
tons, rivaling large whales in size! Like other long neck dinosaurs they were
herbivores, stripping leaves with their peg like teeth. Argentina has a large
variety of Titanosaur fossils including the gargantuan Argentinosaurus and
large clutches of fossil eggs! These eggs are believed to be from Saltasaurus,
a small Titanosaur about 28 feet long and 2.8 tons. To make up for its
(relative) lack of size, Saltasaurus had small, boney plates called osteoderms
embedded in its skin as armor!
Egg fossils
are among the rarest type of dinosaur fossil, and with fossil exports banned
from Argentina their infamous egg fossils are getting harder and harder to come
by. A great opportunity to own a unique and increasingly rare piece of
paleontology from an iconic group of dinosaurs at a price that won't break the
bank!
