Bass traps are an indispensable tool every recording studio must have. They're also something that's easy to install at home to vastly improve the acoustic response of your own room.

How do Bass Traps Work?

A bass trap is a type of acoustic treatment panel that helps reduce problems in the low-end of the frequency response of a room. You're not actually going to be trapping any bass. Low-frequency sound waves are way too long to fit into any conveniently sized bass “trap”. You’re actually going to be absorbing bass energ, in other words, deading it by converting it to heat. When sound waves pass by and vibrate the fibers due to friction, they have to use up some of their energy. The sound energy is translated into physical vibrations which are then dissipated into the room as tiny amounts of heat.

Where Do I Install Bass Traps?

Bass waves survive and build up in the longest distances in the rooms due to their longer wavelengths. The highest priority places to put these bass-targeting panels first. The priority is:

1. Floor-to-ceiling corners

2. Center of the front wall

3. Center of the back wall

4. All other corners

For flat walls, you can use our acoustic panels, which are a good choice for absorbing mid to high frequency sound waves.

Regular acoustic treatment panels are typically thinner (2 inches in thickness) and are positioned in specific places in your room to stop reflections in the mid-range and upper frequencies. They're placed in the first reflection zones mainly and then are scattered throughout the room in general.
