A superb quick build kit of the German Panzer I Ausf B fitted with Wurfrahmen 40 racks on the rear deck to provide close artillery support.

In the early 1930s, the German Army needed a tank that could be built cheaply and in large numbers. The earliest versions had open top hulls, no turrets and were designed as agricultural tractors to hide their true purpose.

Having a two man crew with the driver on the left, the turret was armed with two 7.92mm machine guns and was offset to the right on the roof of the hull. Production of the Panzer I Ausf B ran to 2,000 vehicles and was battle tested during the Spanish Civil war. However the Panzer I also saw service in 1939 in Poland and France in 1940 with a few still in service during Operation Barbarossa in 1941 and in the North African campaign.

By 1941 there were still 800 Pz Kpfw I in service. These vehicles were reallocated for training or converted into self propelled gun carriages. A small number were converted to mount two 280mm or 320mm Wurfrahmen rockets in wooden crates on the rear deck of the vehicle. These vehicles served on the Eastern Front during the early stages of Operation Barbarossa in 1941. Typicaly they were used to assault Russian fortified positions prior to infantry assaults. This Panzer I variant was phased out in favour of the Sd Kfz 251 half track fitted with six Wurfrahmen rockets.
