Description
Up for sale is an extremely rare 18th Century handpainted porcelain Bonbonierre in the form of a Comical grinning Tiger on a grassy mound.
The hinged base is handpainted with a Tiger hunting scene, after Antonio Tempesta, with a Pyramid or Obelisk in the background.
High Quality, very scarce piece.
Will have originated in either South Staffordshire or Birmingham.
Will date to around 1760.
Measures 6cm wide and 5.5cm high.
In Good overall condition for age, but does have some small area's of damage. There are some chips to the enamel around the base rim. There is also a hairline crack to the top left section of the hinged base, but this is secured. There is no damage to the tiger itself. (see photographs)
This is still a very sweet and ultra rare bonbonierre, which is over 250 years old.
A bonbonierre of this design (in good condition) sold at Bonhams in 2011 for £4500!
