Condition : NEW
Veterans Memorial Coliseum, New Haven, CT, USA November 13, 1975 PERFECT SOUND (UPGRADE)
Four years ago, the long-awaited box set of Bob Dylan's 1975 Rolling Thunder Revue was released, but it was comprised entirely of multi-tracked live performances. This resulted in a bias toward recordings from the middle of the tour, revealing that many shows were not multi-tracked.
In fact, there were even several dates from the latter half of the tour that were not multi-tracked, and the highly acclaimed "DEFINITIVE DOUBLE E'S" was released to fill that gap. Ironically, however, "NEW HAVEN 1975" retained its value thanks to the release of the Rolling Thunder box set. It's a masterpiece capturing a performance with a great audience just as the tour was getting underway, and it's also a masterpiece that represents the first half of Rolling Thunder. Released nearly 10 years ago, this album's reputation has led to it selling out for quite some time.
In fact, it sold out even before the official Rolling Thunder box set was released, and after the box set's release, it became a classic album, with enthusiasts constantly calling for a re-release.
Nearly 10 years have passed since its release, so perhaps it's about time for a re-release. Graf Zeppelin was asked to brush up the sound source this time. They've done a masterful job this time, and needless to say, the original recording was reviewed for the re-release. The secret to its popularity lies in the exceptionally fresh sound of a 1975 mono audience recording, and Graf Zeppelin's remastering has made it even clearer. What's more, this time, recordings are included starting with Bob Neuwirth's introduction before Dylan appears at the opening, making it a clearly upgraded version in terms of content.
Furthermore, Graf Zeppelin has completely revised its bonus tracks. While the previous release featured rare numbers from dates after the New Haven concert, this time, bonus takes from the New Haven concert have been included, further enhancing the overall consistency of the album. This release includes many repertoire tracks not performed in the matinee concert, including classics like "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" and "Blowin' In The Wind," as well as Dylan's tender vocals on "I Don't Believe You," performed on guitar and vocals.
Meanwhile, the bonus tracks from other artists featured in the previously well-received Hartford concert have been reworked by Graf Zeppelin, resulting in a more solid sound quality. One of these tracks is "It Makes No Difference," which Rick Danko performed before he performed it live with The Band. This moment is all the more historic now, following the passing of composer Robbie Robertson.
And above all, with regards to the main New Haven recording, the Thunder Revue's trial run period came to an end, and the band's confidence in performing was clearly apparent thanks to the high-quality audience. While the sound image isn't quite what one would describe as "soundboard-like," the clear, fresh recording is truly easy to listen to. It's a reminder that this was a premium audience for the first half of the tour.
What's more, it was a stroke of luck that the historic live premiere of the timeless classic "Tangled Up in Blue" was captured with such easy-to-listen-to sound quality. Scenes like this speak to Dylan's confidence as the tour progressed smoothly, but a rather amusing incident occurred in the final track of Disc 1, "One More Cup of Coffee." Here, Dylan, wanting to try a different tempo, begins singing, only to be stunned by the rhythm section's hesitation and return to the original rhythm—a truly remarkable moment.
The exceptional clarity with which this recording is captured is another major attraction. Originally hailed as a classic of the first half of the 1975 Rolling Thunder Revue, this release has been reimagined for its 2023 re-release thanks to masterful production by Graf Zeppelin. This masterpiece, capturing the harmonious atmosphere of the first half of the tour, something you won't find in the Rolling Thunder Revue, is re-released in its best condition!

(Remastering Notes)
★ The main track's bandwidth has been slightly revised, eliminating occasional buzzing in the right channel.
