I picked this Mayan heavy brass pin up at an estate sale of a world traveler and artist. The c-clasp on the reverse makes me think it is quite old. Or it could be made for tourist trade where jewelry making was unsophisticated. It is quite heavy so I do not think it would be 20th century.
The front of the piece has little to no corrosion or pitting. Looks good. I've read that these pins may have been gilt. I do not have any proof of that. the back does have pitting, but this may have happened in the casting of the brass. The welds where the pin is attached to the brass is very well done. Look closely at my photos this pin is very detailed and intracity. The casting is very clean.
