Thomas Roscoe (1791–1871) was an English author and translator. The fifth son of William Roscoe, he was born in Toxteth Park, Liverpool in 1791, and educated by Dr. W. Shepherd and by Mr. Lloyd, a private tutor.

Soon after his father's financial troubles in 1816, which led to bankruptcy, Roscoe began to write in local magazines and journals, and he continued to follow literature as a profession. He died at age 80, on 24 September 1871, at Acacia Road, St. John's Wood, London.

Novelists include: Don Juan Manuel, Mendoza, Mateo Aleman, Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, Don Francisco de Quevedo Villegas, Doctor Don Juan Perez de Montalvan, Antonio de Eslava, Donna Maria de Zayas I Soto Mayor, Matias de los Reyes, Don Christoval Lozano, Luis Veliz de Guevara, Isidro de Robles, Alonzo del Castillo Salorzano.

• Spine – good condition – gilt titles on twin red labels, five raised gilt bands, highly decorative gilt compartments, slight wear top and tail of each volume.
• Joints – good condition – gently rubbed and worn.
• Corners – good condition – gently bumped and worn with minor loss to some volumes.
• Boards – good condition – half leather and marbled paper boards, gilt fillets, sun faded down the spine edges.
• Page edges – good condition – top edges slightly darkened, all marbled.

Internally

• Hinges – good condition – intact in all three volumes.
• Paste downs – good condition – marbled with a book plate ‘Thos. Gaisford’ in each volume.
• End papers – good condition – marbled.
• Title – good condition – tanned and foxed in all three volumes.
• Pages – good condition – lightly tanned and foxed throughout each volume.
