Description:

London: Boriswood, 1937, First Edition.

Inscribed by the author “Best Wishes to Peter O’Sullevan and deep gratitude (surely the first copy in leather!) from Rex Warner”.

An extremely good example of the author's first adult book; considered one of the first books to demonstrate the influence of Kafka on the English novel; a radical dystopian fantasy in which a tyrannical government is overthrown in a heroic revolution. Three brothers set off to find freedom & discover a strange country "where space and time follow a mad logic of their own”.

Rex Warner (1905 – 1986) was an English classicist, writer and translator. He is now probably best remembered for The Aerodrome (1941). Warner was described by V. S. Pritchett as "the only outstanding novelist of ideas whom the decade of ideas produced".

The book is dedicated to Peter O’Sullevan – thought to be Sir Peter O'Sullevan CBE (1918 – 2015) was an Irish-British horse racing commentator for the BBC, and a correspondent for the Press Association, Daily Express and Today. He was the BBC's leading horse racing commentator from 1947 to 1997, during which time he described some of the greatest moments in the history of the Grand National.
