Canadian stamps: lovely example of the 1932 3c-13c set of 3 stamps from the Imperial Economic Conference held in Ottawa. The conference was held by the British dominions to discuss the Great Depression. It was also when the group admitted to the failure of the Gold standard and abondoned any attempts to return to it. The group adopted Keynesian theories about lowering interest rates, expanding the money supply and expanding government spending. The conference established quotas of wheat, meat, dairy products and fruit to enter Britain free of duty. Britain's aim at that time was to encourage more trade between Britain and its dominions rather than the dominions to Germany or the U.S. It was also a time as well when the dominions started to spread their wings such that they could negotiate and sign treaties on their own. These are the 3 stamps printed at that time to commemorate the conference.
