The American Women Quarters Program is a four-year series celebrating the accomplishments and contributions made by women to the development and history of the U.S. Beginning in 2022, and continuing through 2025, the Mint will issue five new quarters each year featuring reverse designs honoring prominent American women, who made significant contributions in a variety of fields, including suffrage, civil rights, abolition, government, humanities, science, space, and the arts. The women honored are from ethnically, racially, and geographically diverse backgrounds.

This is the 20th issue of the new quarter series that celebrates Althea Gibson She was a trailblazing multisport athlete who accomplished an impressive list of firsts throughout her athletic career in tennis and professional golf. She became the face of American achievement in a global sport platform and paved the way for future Black talent in sports. By the end of the 1950s, Gibson won 11 Grand Slam titles, including multiple championships at Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, and the French Open. Please see the pictures!!
