Pretty full hand painted gilt vellum binding (unsigned), with gilt titles, gilt lattice work and painted red and green to the spine, gilt scroll decoration to the boards, with red and green painted decoration to the front board, top page edges yellow, others tanned, pictorial and textured end papers, thin paper pages, tanned.

Housed in a paper red dust jacket and accompanying cloth covered slipcase.

Provenance: inscription from Gertrude Jardine to Aunt Janey to the front.

Pagination: xii, [1], 320pp.

Approximately 6 ¼ inches tall (16cm).

  • Spine – very good condition – gilt titles, gilt decoration, painted colour to the gilt work, gently worn and a little faded.
  • Joints – very good condition – sound, gently rubbed and worn.
  • Corners – good condition – gently rubbed, bumped and worn.
  • Boards – good condition – gilt scroll decoration, coloured to the front board, gently rubbed and worn.
  • Page edges – good condition – tanned and darkened, top edge yellow.
  • Dust jacket – good condition – gilt titles to a very faded spine, red cloth textured paper.
  • Slipcase - good condition – faded and worn.

  • Hinges – good condition – sound.
  • Paste downs – good condition – patterned and textured.
  • End papers – good condition – patterned and textured, subsequently tanned.
  • Title – good condition – tanned, with minor marks.
