🔍 Product Overview
The DJI O4 Wide Air Unit is the expanded‑FOV variant of DJI's latest digital FPV air unit, purpose‑built for custom micro‑quad builds (1.8–3″ frames).
It features a 159° ultra‑wide‑angle lens on a 1/2″ CMOS sensor, capturing onboard 4K/60fps video with optional D‑Cinelike‑like color. The integrated O4 video transmission delivers 1080p/100fps live view at up to 10 km FCC range (SRRC: 6 km) with as low as ~15 ms latency in Racing Mode. Canvas Mode lets you overlay custom Betaflight OSD elements in the goggles. At only ~7.7 g (camera + board — similar to standard O4 Air Unit) it's significantly lighter than the Pro version — ideal for micro FPV builds demanding both wide perspective and HD recording.
✨ Key Features
📷 159° Ultra‑Wide Camera
-
1/2″ CMOS, 159° DFOV (rectilinear correction available in post): Wider, more immersive FPV perspective vs. standard O4 AU (~155° → slightly wider).
-
4K/60fps Onboard Recording: H.265, max 50 Mbps bitrate.
-
1080p/100fps FPV Downlink: Smooth, low‑latency live feed to DJI Goggles 3 / N3 / Goggles 2 / Integra.
📡 O4 HD Video Transmission
-
Range: Up to 10 km (FCC) / 6 km (SRRC) / 2 km (CE).
-
Low Latency Racing Mode: Down to ~15 ms (with compatible goggles).
-
8‑Pilot Concurrent Racing: Auto frequency coordination.
🛠️ Betaflight & Canvas Mode
-
Canvas Mode: Customize OSD layout & data fields shown in goggles.
-
SBUS / CRSF / PWM Passthrough: Works with external receivers; SBUS required when using DJI FPV RC 2 directly.
-
Betaflight 4.3.0+ / INAV 8.0.1+ fully supported.
⚖️ Micro‑Build Optimized
-
Weight: Camera + VTx board ≈ 7.7 g (similar to standard O4 Air Unit, far lighter than O4 Air Unit Pro).
-
Frame Fit: Designed for 1.8–3″ micro / toothpick frames with 20×20 mm or whoop‑mount options (check mounting pattern).
🔘 Activation
-
First Use: Must be powered via flight controller or direct battery connection to activate — follow DJI Assistant 2 or goggles on‑screen prompt.
⚙️ Technical Specifications
💡 Usage Tips
-
Activation First: Before maiden — power the Air Unit via FC USB/battery while goggles are on → follow on‑screen activation.
-
Goggle Binding: Bind Air Unit to Goggles 3/N3 or Goggles 2/Integra via goggles menu → [Bind Air Unit].
-
SBUS for DJI RC 2: In Betaflight CLI set
set serialrx_provider = SBUS and wire SBUS pad to FC UART.
-
OSD Customization: Use Canvas Mode in goggles to drag‑drop telemetry elements (RSSI, Vbat, timer, etc.).
-
Antenna Orientation: Keep antenna perpendicular to ground plane for best signal; avoid sharp bends at connector.
-
Micro‑Build Cooling: Ensure VTx board has airflow — small frames can trap heat.
⚠️ Important Notes
-
Activation Required: Unit will NOT arm / transmit until activated with power + goggles present.
-
Goggle Compatibility: Not compatible with analog goggles or WalkSnail / HDZero systems.
-
External Receiver Needed for Non‑DJI Radios: If using TBS Crossfire / ExpressLRS etc., wire to FC — Air Unit passes through MSP/CRSF but does NOT contain RF radio for those protocols.
-
Frame Fit Check: Confirm 20×20 mm mount and clearance for camera cable routing before building.
-
Static Discharge: Discharge yourself before handling — ESD can damage the CMOS sensor or VTx.
