Condition : NEW
Live at Auditorium Theater, Rochester, New York, USA, December 17, 1974, STEREO SBD
"Broadway" was the pinnacle of the Peter Gabriel era for Genesis and a monumental work in British progressive rock. This legendary recording, often referred to as the "last complete soundboard reproduction," is now available in superb quality.
This release captures the "December 17, 1974 Rochester performance." The "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway Tour" began in November 1974, and this Rocha Star performance was the first North American date on the tour. What was the "last remaining soundboard" at this early stage of the tour? Before we explain, let's take a look back at the soundboard situation for the complete live performance of "Broadway."
December 16, 1974, Toronto: "MAPLE LEAF LAMB"
December 17, 1974, Rochester (This work)
January 10, 1975, Florida: "DEFINITIVE FLORIDA LAMB"
January 11, 1975, Lakeland: "ULTIMATE LAMB"
January 24, 1975, Los Angeles: "LAMB MASTER IN LOS ANGELES"
January 28, 1975, Phoenix: "THE LAMB LIES DOWN IN PHOENIX"
April 19, 1975, Liverpool: "THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON EMPIRE"
There are other soundboards besides the ones mentioned above, but these are the only ones that capture the full show. While each is a spectacular display of wildly popular titles, the Rochester performance in this work is the only one that has not been titled. That's what it means to be "the last one left." So why wasn't it released? The reason was quality. The original master of this work first appeared in 2008. Many people will remember the excavation rush at the time. Among them, the Rochester performance was somewhat unfavorable in the face of prestigious recordings such as "ULTIMATE LAMB," which was a huge hit with its ultimate quality, the original sound source of the official "ARCHIVE #1," "LAMB MASTER IN LOS ANGELES," and the only full sound board in the country, "THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON EMPIRE."
Eight years have passed since then. A turning point has come for the "last sound board." One overseas core enthusiast declared, "The performance of editing equipment has improved significantly in the past few years. Now is the time to make the impossible possible." Struggling with the original master, whose pitch was randomly out of sync, removing noise, repairing degradation, and connecting the missing "Anyway" from the Phoenix performance...these stories have become a hot topic online. This work is based on the restoration master, filled with the passion of such enthusiasts. In fact, when I first heard the dramatically improved quality from the original sound source eight years ago, it was so impressive that I could see the difficulty of the work. However, it still wasn't perfect. Upon closer inspection, some pitch and noise corrections were found. The pitch of the restored parts was also not completely correct. While I have every respect for the passion of overseas enthusiasts, it is their hard work that makes me want to make it perfect. I wasted no time in making the final restoration, and this work was born.
The reborn Rochester performance has successfully joined the ranks of many soundboard masterpieces. What's surprising is that despite the intense mastering process, the sound remains fresh. While "Anyway" certainly sounds patched, there's no other noticeable processing, as if it was a completely unblemished master from the start. The sound boasts a direct-from-the-board freshness rather than an official polish, literally right at your ears. In particular, Gabriel's singing voice and storytelling MCs seem to be able to hear even his breathing on the microphone, and even the buzzing noises from the on-site amps that leak out when things get quiet are incredibly realistic. It's not just right at your ears; it's like plugging your ears in and mixing the live performance in your head, with a direct connection.
This new "Broadway of Dazzling" is the product of Gabriel's love, passion, and obsession for Genesis, combined with advances in modern technology. It's the pinnacle of a monumental story that will likely never be repeated, and will remain in rock history as brilliant as PINK FLOYD's "The Wall." This final soundboard has finally been reborn in press quality. Please come and experience this historic achievement, in which the rock concert became a performing art, with superb sound.
