Hi! You're looking at a SUPERB condition book which is OUT OF PRINT and a classic novel written by A. J. CRONIN--the book is a collectible STATED FIRST EDITION and is a HARDCOVER with the ORIGINAL DUSTJACKET and is NOT a remainder copy and NOT price-clipped, with the original $4.95 price in the upper corner of the front inner flap. This book is in SUPERB condition and the book itself has a removed blank first page, a tiny ding on the upper right tip of p. 191, slight dings on the tips and a couple of slight scuffs on the page edges but NO other significant imperfections; the dustjacket has very light dings and a few tiny tears on the spine and opening tips, a few very light dings and tiny tears on the upper edges of the front inner flap and back cover and just slight shelfwear otherwise but NO other significant imperfections! The book is titled A Song of Sixpence and it was written by A. J. CRONIN; it was published by Little, Brown and Company in 1964 and is a STATED 1st EDITION copy.
A Song of Sixpence is set in the beautiful western highlands of Scotland. The story revolves around the innocent youth whose very naivete is a target for the complex currents of his social surroundings -- the bigotry of the Scottish Protestants, the rigid class consciousness. Laurie is an outsider. The only child of a middle-aged Catholic couple, he suffers the pangs of isolation in a staunchly Puritan town.
A fantastic find, and a beautiful copy of this book!
