Description

Urushi – known internationally as "Japan" – is a traditional lacquer craft deeply rooted in many Asian cultures. However, in Japan, it has evolved uniquely as a form of decorative art, distinguished by vibrant and intricate embellishment techniques.
Driven by a dedication to handmade excellence, MINASE has collaborated with Kawatsura lacquerware, a traditional craft from its home in Yuzawa, Akita, with over 800 years of history. For this special creation, one of the “Five Lacquer Masters,” Mr. Settsu, crafted a raden (mother-of-pearl inlay) dial, giving birth to a timepiece unlike any other.
The Alchemy of MINASE × Kawatsura Raden: Tradition Meets Innovation
In Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture – home to both the MINASE watch brand and the renowned Kawatsura lacquerware – a unique local collaboration has emerged. Master artisan Urushi Kobo Settsu has created a breathtaking dial inlaid with natural shell using traditional raden techniques. This handcrafted work is housed in the popular MINASE "DIVIDO" case, designed with the spirit of Japanese origami aesthetics.
The result: the "Rainbow Cloud" edition of the DIVIDO Urushi series.
What sets the “Rainbow Cloud” apart is the mesmerizing shimmer and depth of its dial. Depending on the angle, the natural shell sparkles with hues that shift from soft pink to deep green, creating a living interplay of color and light. Unlike mass-produced shell dials, this piece is meticulously assembled by hand, with each natural shell fragment color-matched and arranged for maximum harmony—requiring extraordinary time and skill.
