This poster
pays homage to a true underdog and trailblazer in racing history β the
Mercedes-Benz AMG 300 SEL 6.8, famously known as the βRed Pigβ (Die Rote Sau).
Built by the fledgling AMG tuning company in 1971, this oversized luxury sedan
stunned the motorsport world when it roared onto the track at the 24 Hours of
Spa-Francorchamps.
Weighing
over 1.6 tons and based on a Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL, AMG engineers modified the
car with a massive 6.8-liter V8 engine, pushing out over 420 horsepower. Though
it seemed absurd to race such a heavy luxury car, it finished 2nd overall and
1st in its class at Spa β a feat that made international headlines and put AMG
on the map.
Its large red body, thunderous engine, and unexpected agility earned it the nickname "Red Pig" β a name that became legendary. While the original was eventually sold for testing military aircraft brakes, its spirit lives on in every modern AMG vehicle.
