Used (U) – A stamp that has been postmarked or canceled as part of the mail service and has been removed from the envelope or package. Also, we use this term (used) for all canceled or precanceled stamps without OG even though they were not mailed or affixed to mail.

Original Gum (OG) – A stamp that still retains its original gum, though it may have been hinged.

Lightly Hinged (LH) – A stamp that has been affixed to an album page with a hinge, leaving only a slight mark on the gum.

Hinged (H) – A stamp that has been mounted with a hinge, with a noticeable mark or remnant of the hinge on the gum.

Precancelled – A stamp that was canceled by the postal authority before being used, often for bulk mailing purposes.

No Gum (NG) – A stamp without gum, either due to removal or because it was issued without gum originally.
