Elder is a plant native to most of Europe, North America, and southwest Asia. Its flowers and berries have a long history of use in traditional European medicine.
Sambucus Nigra berries also known as Black Elder, European Elder, and Common Elder are mostly used medicinally, especially for infusions, to combat colds and the flu.
Elder is also used to prepare jams, jellies, chutney, and cordials
To prepare as a tea, add 1 tsp. of berries to 1 cup water in a pot. Cover and simmer for 3-5 minutes, strain and serve immediately.
