This wonderful oil on canvas features a young man on a smoke break from his job as a cobbler's apprentice, judging by the items on the cobblestones around his feet!! Francois Xavier Bricard (1881 to 1935) lived in France but this painting was framed in Austria as labeled on the back!! There is writing on the back of the frame, one line which identifies the painting as "The Little Shoe Black"!! There is also a number written on the lower left corner, 33102, which may dates this to March 31. 1902 as to when it was framed!! The canvas has plenty of crazing on the surface but no chipping or scratching of the paint and no holes in the canvas!! There is a loose section along the top edge which should be remedied when it is re-stretched, if desired!! The wooden frame is solid and in EXCELLENT condition with no chips or cracks and would cost a small fortune to duplicate today!! Approx. 16" X 28.5" overall and the painting is on a 12.5" X 25" stretcher frame!! Quoted shipping charges are based on the farthest zone from me, so if you live in closer proximity to Greensboro, NC, the cost will go down!! I refund overcharges less a small packing & handling fee, so even if you pay the quoted charge you will not be overcharged!! BUT PLEASE WAIT FOR INVOICING to maximize your potential refund as eBay now charges a final value fee on the shipping too!! Please see my many other art and frame listings and email me with any questions!!
