Sarasota, FLORIDA - Ringling Brothers Winter Quarters - Giraffes: In 1927, John Ringling brought the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus winter quarters to Sarasota, Florida. The winter quarters, which had previously been located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, became a major tourist attraction, showcasing circus rehearsals, animals, and performers from around the world. Sarasota was transformed into a hub for circus activity, becoming known as "Circus City, USA". The winter quarters remained in Sarasota until 1959, when they were moved to Venice, Florida in 1960. The winter quarters in Sarasota attracted not only tourists but also circus families and artists, solidifying Sarasota's reputation as a center for circus activity. John and Mabel Ringling also built a lavish mansion in Sarasota, the Ca'd'Zan, which became a symbol of their success and opulence. This Linen Era (1930-45) postcard is in good condition.
