Devonian period ammonoid [417.000,000 to 353,000,000 approximately] retained in the original limestone fossil bedrock layer.
The limestone was cut and worked around the specimen fossil, creating a natural foot for display and enhancing the display of the fossil specimen.
The ammonoid has been hand-prepared - and excavated from the fossil bedding layer.
It is polished to reveal the mineral chambers of calcites (quartz) and other natural minerals deposited in the fossil bed.
