This is printing plate, nailed into a wooden block for printing. This particular plate is very interesting considering it features Flornell Glamorous, a winning greyhound who won multiple Best In Show awards during the 1940's.
Mardormere Kennels are the owner of Flornell Glamorous and Percy Roberts (written on the side, see photo) was the greyhounds handler.
