1. Making Kuih Siput (Malaysian Snack)

Kuih Siput (literally "Snail Cookies") is a popular Malaysian deep-fried snack, named after its curled shape. It’s crispy, savory, and sometimes mildly spicy.

Ingredients

✅ 500g all-purpose flour
✅ 100g margarine or butter (softened)
✅ 1 egg (optional, for a richer texture)
✅ 150ml coconut milk
✅ 1 tsp salt
✅ 1 tsp sugar
✅ 1 tsp turmeric powder (for color)
✅ 1 tsp chili powder (optional, for spicy flavor)
✅ 1 tbsp curry powder
✅ 1 tsp baking powder
✅ Water (as needed, for consistency)
✅ Oil (for deep frying)

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Dough

  • In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, turmeric, chili powder, and curry powder.
  • Rub in the margarine/butter until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  • Add the egg (if using) and slowly pour in coconut milk while kneading.
  • Add water little by little if needed to form a firm, non-sticky dough.

2️⃣ Shape the Kuih Siput

  • Pinch a small piece of dough (pea-sized).
  • Place it on the Kuih Siput/Gnocchi board and roll it downwards using your thumb to create a curled shape with ridges.
  • Repeat until all dough is shaped.

3️⃣ Deep Frying

  • Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
  • Fry the shaped dough in batches, stirring occasionally until golden brown and crispy.
