A true fire starter is one that you can use without matches or a lighter.  The kit includes: a ferro rod, striking device, cotton balls, birch bark, and fat wood sticks.  To use this kit, strike the ferro rod (several times may be necessary) to emit sparks onto the cotton balls. Once fire has started, use birch bark and small tinder to build the fire. Replace cotton balls (I actually use dryer lint as its free) as needed and you can reuse the kit over and over for many years. I have designed each kit as if I were using it myself and with items I would approve of.   Only use this kit in a safe outdoor location and in the presence of an adult.  Have fun and work on your fire starting craft with this kit!
