Up for sale is Marshmallow, Althaea officinalis. 50 seeds.
this is one of the sweetest flowers in my garden, it has 100's of 1" wide light pink to white flowers from July to late august, on a 5'+ tall bush. the leaves are so soft and fuzzy you will want to pet them.
all parts of this plant are edible, it contains mucilage that can be used to thicken soups, stews and other dishes. the roots and leaves have been used as an herbal remedy to sooth and reduce inflammation of the mucous membranes in the mouth, throat and stomach. in ancient times the roots were cooked with honey to create a sweet confection and medicine. these treats are precursors of the modern marshmallows, although they no longer contain marshmallow root extract.
marshmallow plants are tolerant of a wide range of soil types and brief periods of drought once established although they prefer moist soil.
they are beautiful in the back of the herb garden in vegetable garden, cottage gardens, rain gardens and other informal garden settings.
the seeds will sprout better with 12 weeks cold treatment before planting.
