Description: Good - First Edition, 1916. This is a rare version of the United States Department of the Interior's National Parks Portfolio, created in 1916 to promote the country's new national park system. No markings. 9 pamphlets & Introduction/Contents sheet in nice clean condition (Yellowstone, Yosemite, Sequoia, Mount Rainer, Crater Lake, Mesa Verde, Glacier, Rocky Mountain and Grand Canyon). Outer cover (with inner map) in mylar sleeve & in Fair condition with tears on spine repaired with acid free tape. The portfolio was created by Robert Sterling Yard (1861-1945). The portfolio was Yard's most successful publicity initiative , offering a collection of nine pamphlets that--through photographs interspersed with text lauding the scenic grandeur of the nation's major parks--connected the parks with a sense of national identity to make visitation an imperative of American citizenship.
