The Wizard of Oz is a 1939 American musical fantasy film produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It is based on the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. The movie is about a young orphan girl named Dorothy Gale who lost her dog Toto in a tornado. In order to get home, she must travel to the Emerald City where she meets strange and wonderful characters like a Scarecrow, Tin Man, and a Cowardly Lion. Together, they journey to see the Wizard who can help make their dreams come true.
