Push the lever down and the switch turns on - and the lever stays down Lift the lever up and the switch turns off - and the lever stays up This microswitch attaches to the float in your condensate pump. As water gathers in the pan, the float rises. When the float gets high enough, this switch activates, which causes the pump to drain the condensate pan. A minute later, when the water level goes down, the float drops, and this switch shuts off the pump. Magic! What prevents your pump from quickly turning on and off when a small amount of water gathers in the pan? Well, like your pump's original switch, this has a bit of mechanical overshoot (hysteresis), due to its latching nature. That's why you don't want to use an ordinary (nonlatching) microswitch!
