Memoirs by an articulate man in the ranks of the 20th Maine Volunteer Regiment who participated in some of the most iconic battles of the Civil War including Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and with (then) Colonel Joshua Chamberlain in the defense of Little Round Top during the Battle of Gettysburg. He continued with the 20th Maine to the end of the war and return home; includes his impressions of 15 historic Union generals.


Enhanced with 8 full-page illustrations and 7 maps.


Hardcover book is in Good+ condition, clean and tight with no marks. Pages are clean and white with foxing on a couple of front and rear pages. Red covers with gilt titles on the spine and front are clean and sharp; wear along spine edge and some discoloration of rear cover edge, but covers solid. No dust jacket.
