Fargesias are non-invasive, clumping Bamboos that do not need to be contained. They make attractive specimens, hedges, or screens. It naturally grows as a clump with a diameter of 3-5 feet but the clumping can be reduced by growing it in the shade.
This species has dark green foliage and light green culms, with new shoots that are hairy and rusty red upon emergence from the ground in early spring. The culm sheaths persist and soon fade to a light color, almost powdery white, giving the culms a very attractive checkerboard look in the spring through early summer. This bamboo is more sun tolerant than most other Fargesia, but in a warmer climate it would prefer protection from the hot afternoon sun.
Common bamboos in the genus Fargesia are essential foods for giant pandas.
USDA Zone recommended 7 through 9 , not for climates with high heat and humidity (southeastern states).
Height :12' - 15' ( 3.5m - 4.5m)
Diameter: 0.75 inch
Hardiness: 0° F
Germination:
Germinating them isn't easy. Best is to let the seeds soak in tepid water for about 12 hours then hardly cover seeds with moist soil and store at a warm place at about 25°C.
It's important to always keep constant moisture what could be improved by simply covering the pot with kitchen foil but anyway it has to be ventilated twice a day to avoid mold.
Depending on temperature germination will start after about 4-5 weeks.
