An unusually beautiful and impressive example of Vietnamese lacquer painting, an art form that goes back many centuries in China and Southeast Asia. The technical process is very complex, involving application of multiple layers. This panel, unframed, measures 15 1/2" by 23 1/4" and it is not signed. Note the gold showing through in many areas, and the detail of the figures and general atmosphere and luminosity created by the artist in a notoriously difficult medium.  Condition is excellent overall, I note just a few superficial scratches.
