This impressive antique George III sterling silver sugar basket has a plain oval shaped, rounded form onto an oval swept pedestal and shaped collet foot.
The surface of this fine example of Georgian silverware is plain and unembellished.
The rim of the body and foot are ornamented with an applied thread decorated border.
The basket retains the original hallmarked thread decorated swing handle; the handle has the identical incurved form of the body and paralleling collet foot.
This impressive basket, crafted by the London plateworker William Stroud, has a gilded interior.
ConditionThis antique sugar basket is a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition, in keeping with age.
Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the foot and part hallmarks to the handle are all very clear; the maker"s mark has wear in keeping with age and location, but remains legible.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of Georgian silverware.
