Pennsylvania State College now University - Frances Atherton Hall & White Hall: The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State or PSU) is a public state-related land-grant research university with campuses and facilities throughout Pennsylvania. Founded in 1855 as the Farmers' High School of Pennsylvania, Penn State became the state's only land-grant university in 1863. Its instructional mission includes undergraduate, graduate, professional and continuing education offered through resident instruction and online delivery. Atherton Hall, built in 1939, is home to the Schreyer Honors College. While this is a traditional, coed building, the bathrooms have been renovated, offering students private, single-user bathrooms that are shared by the floor. Similar to a home, each bathroom is privately used by one individual. Additional sinks are located near the bathrooms to provide quick, easy use. Atherton also offers students an abundant amount of study and social spaces, rec room with kitchen, computer lab, and music practice rooms. Atherton is located in close proximity to downtown, the White Building, and the HUB.
