Contemporary artist Bianca Leeroy works in a broad spectrum of media. This is from an extended series of collages done in homage to one of the masters of the art form, Kurt Schwitters. Leroy has also mentioned being interested in the lineage that comes down through collagist Anne Ryan from Schwitters. So perhaps this is an homage to both collage artists. I think the artist has nailed it here. The perfect combination of detritus and abstraction, a sort of wind storm of papers blowing about on...perhaps... a street in Schwitters' Hanover. Handmade paper has been used in making this somewhat Constructivist mixed media work. Signed on the reverse by the artist. Miniature art is so much fun to collect and this one measures approximately 5.5 inches by just under 6 inches, so very easy to inexpensively and attractively frame. This is an original, one of a kind work of art. You are not buying a reproduction. If it's gone, it's gone forever. I will be posting a number of collages from this Schwitters series, so feel free to check back as they appear. Here is a great opportunity for an enterprising gallery owner to do a quick, easy frame on this for a substantial markup with the strong collecting interest around Schwitters. Or equally a great opportunity for a curator looking for cross-generational influence in contemporary art.
