An Henriot Quimper Milk Jug
Modelled in the form of a Breton Bagpipe
Quimper, Brittany, France - Circa 1910
On offer here is this delightful French Quimper Faience milk pitcher or jug modeled as a musical instrument, namely, a "Le Petit Biniou", as it is known in Brittany, France or, as we know it: a Bagpipe.
This novel and delightful piece is hand painted in typical manner, there being a Breton lady picking flowers in the field to one side and a bold floral pattern to the reverse. The slightly raised pouring lip is painted with a bold, green foliar design extending down to the base.
Our images above and below tell the rest of the tale.
Signed by hand to the base as follows;
Henriot Quimper - France - 796
(796 being the painter/artist's number).
