This sweater is especially valuable as it bears the Bing Crosby name and not “The Bing Crosby Clambake” or “The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am” although they are one and the same essentially. This dates it to before his death in 1977 but after its inception in 1937.
The roots of the Crosby National Celebrity Golf Tournament date to 1937, when Bing Crosby, the biggest star of his era and an avid golfer, decided to stage a different kind of golf event, a pro-am tournament that paired his Hollywood pals with professional golfers. The Crosby was a smash and over the years, drew some of the biggest names in golf and entertainment. After Crosby's death in 1977 (after a game of golf in Spain, no less) the mantle was split between many other tournaments. The most popular being he AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament.
