This is a Pictorial map of California focusing on the early discovery period, showing the paths of the explorers Cabrillo (1542), Drake (1579), Viscaino (1602), Portola-Serra (1769), and Anza (1774).  Settlements and religious missions are illustrated, with the dates of their establishment. The Renaissance-style decorative cartouche (inscribed in Latin “Auctore George Otto Hanft”) is flanked by illustrations of explorers and missionary settlers, and the compass rose is surmounted by a fleur-de-lis. The lower right border advertises “Compliments of Equitable Savings and Loan Association” as a premium or promotion.
