This is "The Future: A Political Essay" by Montgomery H. Throop. First Edition. Published by James G. Gregory, New York, 1864. Written in late 1863, this book questioned the constitutionality of President Lincoln's actions during the Civil War, and likewise questioned what the government hoped to accomplish after the war (i.e. Reconstruction). Hardcover, shows wear and some cover spoiling. There are a few small tears to cloth on cover and spine as shown in my photos. Internally clean, unmarked. The pages are consistently age-toned. There is a small stain on the corner of the outermost page edges. Remains a solid, Good copy that measures 5 1/4 X 7 3/4, 343 pages.
