There's a long history of artists with the surname Sloat producing fantastic works. This vintage still life is by Dolores Sloat. I am assuming it is an oil painting as these soft pastel tones would not be likely to be acrylic. No idea of the date but I am guessing probably the 80s or 70s just by the aesthetic. There is a real lovely evocation of the still lifes of the 1970s in this composition. They loved Freudian symbols like the conch here with its obvious femininity. There is a real wabi-sabi quality to this composition with the inclusion of the antler and the rough oyster shell (I believe it is that, or half of a giant clam shell). The objects in the composition take on a strong quality of symbolism, which is a great tradition in still life painting going back centuries to painters like Chardin. A nice size to this composition which measures approximately 24 x 20 inches. A lovely nostalgia piece and a strong work of art for your collection. The lovely muted and carefully thought-out palette is the real star here. I'm sure it will look fantastic in late evening light.
